There are no hotels or lodges inside Theodore National Park. The closest hotel options are located in Medora (for the South Unit) or Watford City (for the North Unit). Dickinson is the largest nearby city.

South Unit

This is the most popular section of the national park. Visitors to the South Unit can stay in hotels in Medora, Belfield or Dickinson to be within 45 minutes of the entrance to the park.

Medora Hotels

Medora is a historic town in western North Dakota that serves as the gateway to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The Badlands serve as the backdrop to this town with a population of around 100 that was founded in 1883 due to its location along the transcontinental Northern Pacific Railway.

Rough Riders Hotel – This hotel changed its name to Rough Riders the same year that President Roosevelt came to visit in 1903 as part of a presidential tour of the Western United States. Dickinson ND is the largest city in the area with a population of approximately 20,000 people. It is located 35 minutes east of the entrance to the South Unit of the national park along I-94. Watford City is about twenty minutes north of the North Unit Visitor Center. It has a population of about 6,500 people and was recently part of the epicenter of the energy boom in North Dakota. Other nearby activities include the Fairview Lift Bridge and Cartright Tunnel, Fort Union Trading Post and Fort Buford. Watford City is about 90 minutes from the entrance to the South Unit through Medora.
