Kabetogama Lake and Ash River in Voyageurs National Park

Kabetogama Lake and Ash River sit in the southern section of Voyageurs National Park. There are two visitor centers on the lake providing access to the national park.

Kabetogama Lake is a 24,000 acre lake with 190 miles of shoreline. There are over 35 species of fish in the lake, but the majority of fisherman are there for walleye.

This is a seasonal visitor center in the park. It is closed from late September to late May.

Echo Bay Trail

This is an easy 2.5 mile loop located three miles from the Kabetogama Lake Visitor Center off Country Road 122. It is used for cross country skiing in the winter.

Kab-Ash Trail

This is an approximately 28 mile system of interconnected trails with four trailheads connecting Kabetogama and Ash River. It is marked as strenuous by the National Park Service.

This is a seasonal visitor center located in the historic Meadwood Lodge accessed via the Ash River Trail (County Road 129) off of Highway 53. There is a free public boat launch as well as access to hiking trails. It is typically open from late May to late September.

The Ash River Trail also provides access to several lodges along the Ash River. The Kettle Falls shuttle provides roundtrip access to the Kettle Falls Hotel and surrounding area from the Ash River area.

Blind Ash Bay Trail

This is one of the most popular hiking trails in the park. It is an approximately three mile hike which includes the Kabetogama Lake Overlook

Beaver Pond Overlook

This is a short walk that starts about a mile south of the Ash River Visitor Center along Mead Wood Road. it is roughly a 1/3 mile roundtrip. At the end of the trail, there are stairs and a ramp to the overlook of the Beaver Pond. There are also two benches at the overlook to rest and enjoy the view.

Ellsworth Rock Gardens

This is a terraced garden with 62 flower beds on a rock outcrop created by Jack Ellsworth. He planted more than 13,000 lilies and other flowers here. It is the most popular day use destination in Voyageurs, according to the park. It is located across the lake from Kabetogama Lake Visitor Center.
