Glacier National Park Camping – Frontcountry Campgrounds & Backcountry Sites

Glacier National Park offers 13 frontcountry campgrounds and over 60 designated back country campsites in the park. Most campgrounds are open in the summer with two Glacier campgrounds open year round.

Glacier National Park Campgrounds (Online Reservations Accepted)

Fish Creek Campground

This is the second largest campground in the park, and one of the few camgprounds which contains sites that can be reserved online. It is located on the west side of Glacier National Park, just off Camas Road approximately 2.5 miles from Apgar Village. There are 178 sites with 18 sites which can accommodate up to a 35 foot RV or truck and trailer combination. It is usually open from the end of May or early June to the start of September.

St. Mary Campground

St. Mary Campground is the largest campground on the east side of the park with 148 sites. This Glacier campground is open year round, about one half mile west of the park boundary near the town of St. Mary. Three sites can accommodate recreational vehicles and trucks/trailers up to 40 feet, and 22 sites can accommodate up to 35 feet. Primitive camping is available in the spring and fall and winter camping is available from early November through mid-April. Reservations can be made to hold sites for visits between June 1 and September 1.

Many Glacier Campground

This is one of the most popular campgrounds in Glacier National Park, located in the Many Glacier area not far from the Swiftcurrent Motor Inn. There are 109 sites with 13 sites available for up to a 35 foot RV or truck and trailer combo. It is typically open from late May to late September. In 2020 and 2021, the entire campground will be reservation only.

Apgar Group Campsites

Apgar offers five reservable group sites that can accommodate between 9 and 24 people each. It is located near Apgar Village not far from the West Entrance.

Other Glacier Campgrounds (First Come, First Served)

Apgar Campground

Apgar is located near Apgar Village not far from the West Entrance and is the largest campground in Glacier with 194 sites (25 of which can accommodate up to a 40 foot RV or truck/trailer). Lake McDonald is a short stroll from the campground. It is open year round with primitive camping in the spring and fall and winter camping between the start of November and April.

Avalanche Campground

Avalanche has 87 sites and is located along Going-to-the-Sun Road in one of the most popular sections west of the Continental Divide. The campground accomodates tent and RV camping, with 50 sites for vehicle lengths up to 26 feet. It is open from mid-June to mid-September.

Bowman Lake Campround

This campground is located in the North Fork area of Glacier, approximately 32.5 miles north of the West Entrance. There are 46 sites for tent camping. Vehicles over 21 feet in length and vehicle/trailer combos are prohibited on the road here. It is open starting in mid-May with primtive camping in the fall.

Cut Bank Campground

Cut Bank is on the east side of Glacier, accessible by a 5 mile dirt road off Highway 89. It contains 14 sites for tent camping on a first-come, first-serve basis. RVs and truck/trailers are not recommended due to the road and site layout. It is open from late May/early June to mid-September.

Kintla Lake Campground

This campground is located in the most remote frontcountry car camping in the park. It is in the North Fork area near the Canadian border, 40 miles from the West Entrance. Vehicles over 21 feet in length and vehicle/trailer combos are prohibited on the road here. There are 13 primitive sites available on a first come, first served basis.

Logging Creek Campground

Logging Creek is a small primitive campground with seven sites on the west side of Glacier, south of Polebridge. It is open from July through mid-September. Vehicles over 21 feet in length and vehicle/trailer combos are prohibited on the Inside North Fork Road to Logging Creek.

Quartz Creek Campground

Quartz Creek is a small primitive campground with seven sites on the west side of Glacier. It is open from July through late October. Vehicles over 21 feet in length and vehicle/trailer combos are prohibited on the Inside North Fork Road to Quartz Creek.

Rising Sun Campground

This campground is located just west of St. Mary about halfway along St. Mary Lake. There are 84 sites with ten that can accommodate vehicle lengths up to 25 feet. There is a camp store, casual restaurant and token showers adjacent to the campground. It is open from early June to early September.

Sprague Creek Campground

This small campground with 25 sites for tent camping is open from mid-May to mid-September. It is located on the northeast shore of Lake McDonald about a mile from Lake McDonald Lodge.

Two Medicine Campground

This campground in Glacier National Park is located on the shore of Pray Lake, a short distance from Two Medicine Lake. It is approximately 13 miles from East Glacier. There are approximately 100 sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis, with 10 of those available to accommodate up to a 35 foot RV or truck/trailer. There is a camp store and gift shop available on the shore of Two Medicine Lake. This campground is only open in the summer and fall. It opens in late May or early June with primitive camping available from mid-September to mid-October.
