George Washington Birthplace National Monument preserves the 18th century tobacco plantation where future President George Washington was born and lived until he was about four years old. The birthplace house is no longer standing but the foundations have been preserved. Washington’s father, grandfather and great-grandfather are all in the nearby family burial ground.
