Elk Mountain Campground in Wind Cave National Park

Elk Mountain is the Wind Cave National Park campground with around 75 campsites located about a mile from the visitor center. It is located on the western edge of the park near Black Hills National Forest.

Campers self-register at the entrance to the campground. The campground fee is $18 a night. When the water is turned off, it is half price.

RV Sites:

There are 25 pull through sites. There are no length limits on the sites in the B Loop. Recreational vehicles must be parked at established campsites.

Group Campsites:

There are two group campsites at Elk Mountain. They are both located in D Loop and are for groups of people between 9 and 30. If your group is larger than 30 and both sites are open, they may both be reserved.

Both sites have multiple picnic tables and can accomodate multiple vehicles. Only one RV is permitted at each site.

The cost is $40 per site per night, with reservations required. There is a non-refundable deposit (cash, check, money order) of $20 required to assign a site reservation. Deposits must be mailed or delivered in person to the national park.

Amenities:

Firewood is occasionally available at no charge at the self-registration station. Build fires only in the designated grates and do not leave fires unattended. The threat of fire is moderate to high most of the year.

Potable Water spigots, sinks with running water and flush toilets are available. Water is only available during the warmer months before the chance of a hard freeze – it is available throughout the year at the visitor center. Pit toilets are available in the campground where there is no running water.

Other Notes:

There is a cave below the campground so please do not dump waste water on the ground.
