Cape Royal & Angels Window on North Rim of Grand Canyon

Cape Royal is the southernmost viewpoint on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It has the widest scenic view of any overlook with the gorge extending to about 270 degrees and visitors can enjoy Walhalla Overlook and Angels Window on the way.

Cape Royal Trail

A one mile out and back walk to Cape Royal overlook with a spur to reach Angels Window. It is a relatively flat, easy trail to great views of the Grand Canyon from the North Rim.

Angels Window – Angels Window is an easily accessible natural arch on the North Rim. Visitors can walk across the top of the arch to a viewpoint as well as look through the window of the arch to view the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. Angels Window is reached by a spur along the trail to Cape Royal and is a short walk to it from the parking area.

Wotans Throne – A rock formation visible from viewpoint at Cape Royal with an elevation of 7633 feet.

Walhalla Overlook and Ruins – Walhalla Overlook is about a mile up the road from the parking for Cape Royal. The Walhalla Ruins are a short walk from the Overlook and contains authentic Indian ruins set amidst the Grand Canyon vistas. There were more than 100 farm sites occupied here between 1050 and 1150 A.D.

Location

Cape Royal lies 53 miles south of Jacob Lake and 15 miles from the North Rim visitor center. The parking area is reached by Cape Royal Road. Take Highway 67 to the North Rim Entrance. Turn left towards Point Imperial and follow the highway to Cape Royal Road. Continue past Cape Final to the end of the road.
