The Windows & Double Arch in Arches National Park

The Windows area of Arches National Park contains a large concentration of arches with Double Arch, the North and South Windows, Turret Arch and other features like Elephant Butte and the Parade of Elephants. The Windows Road is the first right turn past Balanced Rock. The Windows trailhead is a little over 11 miles from the visitor center and takes about 25 minutes to reach without stops or sightseeing.

Double Arch is a formation of two sandstone arches that shares the same stone foundation for their outer legs. It was formed by downward erosion of water. The trailhead for this half mile round trip hike is located on the north side of the loop road.

The larger arch is 112 feet tall and 144 feet wide. The smaller arch is 86 feet tall and 67 feet wide. At those measurements, the largest of the Double Arch is the tallest and third widest in the park.

The Windows Trailhead leaves from the south side of the loop road and a half mile roundtrip hike can include the Windows (North and South Window are also known as the Spectacles) and Turret Arch. The longer loop hike of the area is 1.2 miles.

South Window is the third largest arch in the park at 105 feet long and 65 feet high. North Window is 51 feet high and 93 feet wide.

Turret Arch is a 64 foot high and 49 foot wide arch that can be seen along the trail.
